RACK-01

A development program for standardized, rack-based manufacturing modules and the software that coordinates them — informed by running a real product business, and built in stages with people in the loop.

RACK-01 is in development. It is not an operating factory, and nothing on this page describes a deployed system, committed specifications, pricing or delivery dates.

Approach

From fragmented workflows to coordinated modules.

The problem
Small-batch production is fragmented. Design files, print preparation, machines, post-processing, inspection and packing each live in a different tool or a different pair of hands. Every hand-off is a place where work stalls or errors creep in.
Modular, rack-based units
RACK-01 treats production capacity as standardized modules in a rack frame, so equipment can be added, swapped or serviced without redesigning the whole cell. Modularity is our design approach, not a guarantee of any particular configuration.
Printers and supporting equipment
The program is working out how 3D printers and the equipment around them — material storage, handling, finishing and packing — fit together physically and electrically inside that frame.
Software coordination
Production-orchestration software is meant to connect orders, print jobs, equipment state and quality checks, so the system knows what to make next and what has been made.
Staged automation with human oversight
Automation is introduced one step at a time. People stay in the loop to review, approve and intervene, and each step has to prove itself in real production before the next is added.

Where it stands

What exists, what we are working toward, and what might follow.

TodayExisting experience

  • Operating Rackify: designing, printing, finishing and shipping 3D-printed equipment mounts to customers.
  • Material-extrusion 3D printing in daily production, with PETG used for current mounts.
  • Software built for our own workflow: product data, print preparation and order handling.

In developmentDevelopment goals

  • Define a standardized module format for production equipment in a rack frame.
  • Integrate printers and supporting equipment into coordinated, software-driven workflows.
  • Add material handling and quality monitoring in stages, each with human review.
  • Validate each stage against real Rackify production before expanding it.

Not yet builtPotential future capabilities

  • Progressively automated workflows from order to packed part.
  • Configurable modules for different products, materials or processes.
  • Production capacity that can be placed closer to where parts are needed.

Printer counts, rack sizes, robot models and enclosure layouts are still being evaluated and are deliberately left out of this page.
